Letter Regarding Temporary Closure

May 11, 2020

Dear Friends and Fellow Parishioners,

The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus is taking a short respite. We will be closed starting today until next Tuesday, May 19th.  During this break we will make Midday Prayer resources and the Coronavirus Novena Prayers available for your ‘home’ Churches. In addition,

  • Mass for the 6th Sunday of Easter will be live streamed on Sunday, May 17 at 10:45.
  • Updates from the Diocese will be forwarded to you as they become available.
  • The Church will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.

The work and ministry we have tried to provide to you over the last sixty days has left us, your staff, exhausted. A seven day hiatus is necessary and well-deserved! We are all healthy, so no need to be concerned for our physical condition…we just need this time to regroup, relax and rejuvenate!  Phones and email will be monitored in the interim. In case of a true emergency, please call 203.375.5815 or email the office at parishoffice@hnojchurch.org

Thank you for your support and participation over the last two months. Please continue to pray for one another and for all who are affected by this pandemic. Continue to check in with one another and as restrictions begin to loosen up, remain vigilant…stay safely distant, wear masks in public, and follow all other suggested protocol for remaining healthy.

In case you are wondering, we have qualified and received grants made available to small not-for-profit organizations as well as a very generous grant from the Diocese of Bridgeport specifically designated for parishes with little to no monies in reserve. These funds do not have to be paid back and are therefore a true God-send for us. Kindly offer a prayer of thanks AND do whatever you are able in terms of your regular contributions to the work of our Church. Some have been very conscientious with their Offertory, however, income from weekly and monthly offertory envelopes is down quite a bit. The assistance we have received from grants available helps us in the short term, but your faithful contributions are needed to keep us financially healthy and responsible to our creditors. If you would like more information or assistance in setting up online donating, please let us help you.

Looking forward we will be preparing for the phased reopening for Masses with a congregation. While plans are incomplete at the moment, begin preparing yourselves for a radically different way of celebrating and congregating. The “Old Normal” will not be coming back! The “New Normal” will take some time to get used to but will be fashioned to uphold the beauty and integrity of our faith, as well as the safety and well-being of all worshippers. In the meantime…

May our Blessed Mother Inspire and Console Us,

May the Lord Be Always With Us,

May the Holy Spirit Guide and Enlighten Us,

And May our God Bless Us Now, Always and Forever!
